DragonTeach is a comprehensive learning management system designed to create efficiency for instructors while providing a better learning experience for students. The initial build was developed while I was an instructor at Sheridan College, where it allowed us to improve our marking efficiency by an incredible 1000%. The current system, available at https://www.dragonteach.com/, is a completely redesigned and rebuilt version of the original platform. It now offers automated assessments and streamlined webspace setups for students. Built on WordPress, the system gives you access to any features and functions that plugins and themes provide. The primary goal is to significantly reduce instructor marking time while simultaneously improving student comprehension and engagement.
Key Features
- Easy Student Access: Students can easily obtain their own webspace by simply accessing a form on their instructor’s DragonTeach site. The setup process is straightforward and requires minimal technical knowledge.
- Instructor Site Building: Instructors can build their own professional presence using their personalized WordPress site. They can connect students together using the BBPress plugin for forum discussions, or integrate any other WordPress plugins to enhance the learning environment.
- Class Management: Students are organized into classes, making it easy for instructors to manage their courses. Instructors can view marks, administer student WordPress sites (including resetting passwords), and run WP-CLI commands for advanced administration tasks.
- Automated Testing: Students have access to an online tester that allows them to check their labs and assignments (fully controllable by the instructor) to ensure they are on the right track. This provides immediate feedback and helps students identify areas that need improvement before final submission.
