I just saw a news article about a drone in a wildfire area and they intercepted 29 drones over Fifa in Toronto and 745 over Vancouver – these are gigantic no-nos. It’s so infuriating for those of us who fly safely and respect the rules. These folks flying like idiots make all drone pilots look bad and creates incentives for more laws limiting drone flights. Read the rules, there are a set of basics that no matter what you’re flying (that includes you microdrones under 250g) you need to follow.
The police have a whole arsenal of drone detection software and hardware, so, if you think you’re clear, don’t. In the case of FIFA, as soon as your drone goes up the police know where you are and are going to come and get you. More of the problem is where there isn’t a big event with dedicated people watching for drones and some yahoo is buzzing the crowd – you’re gonna make it a problem for everyone.
