Had a friend ask me to print some skunks for her, was originally gonna go with Pepe Le Pew, but found these flexi ones in a pack I bought on Etsy, and they looked super cute. Around 6 hours to print. In all the time I’ve had my printers, was my first set of flexi critters I’ve printed.
The Printing Process
The 6-hour print time for these skunks was pretty reasonable considering the detail and articulation involved. My first run was slightly smaller, but they detached from the plate, so I added a brim, went 25% bigger and worked. It’s a 3 colour print, black, white and a little bit of red for ears and nose.
The brim turned out to be a bit of a bad idea. Maybe would have been better printed in black, it was tricky to get off and it left some brim bits attached. Very visible with white brim.
Why Skunks?
While my initial thought was to print the classic Pepe Le Pew character, discovering these flexi skunks in an Etsy model pack turned out to be a happy accident. The articulated design adds an interactive element that makes them much more fun than a static model.
